I thought I'd start posting my WIPs, mostly to keep me on track, and to let people comment on how it's going.
I did the first draft of the skin. As you can see in some of the shots, there are seam issues on the back. That'll be my first priority when I start to 'clean up' all the textures. I still don't have the hand objects built yet, it's currently wearing the hands from the Cape Hunting Dog. The tail is not currently attached (Still need to do textures for it). And the legs/feet are waiting for real textures as well. Mostly been working on it from the head down. And I also realize that the tiger's nose is pretty straight (parallel edges) between the eyes and the nose. My issue is that I've got the eyes as far as I can possibly get them. People really like that they can use the human avatar eyes, so this always kind of presents an issue for animals with wide set eyes. So I had to kind of squish the nose a bit and widen it out near the edge. I'll see if I can fix the textures to give it the illusion that it's the same size as the eyes, but I'm not sure how well it would work out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looking good, Jakkal. I'm looking forward to seeing more felines, cougars particularly. ^^

If you want to widen out the back end of the muzzle where it meets the face, you probably could, at least toward the bottom. The eyes look about right where they are.
Trying to explain what I mean on the muzzle thing but argh I'm so bad at wording things and even worse at thinking in 3D - pretty sure a standard redline-style suggestion won't work quite the same here. lol Either way It's looking good so far. Your fur textures keep pushing further and further toward realism (and when I first saw that I couldn't imagine them getting any better - look how far they've come already!) |

I'm not terribly worried about it because it is a half human avatar. The problem with widening the noise right there is that it starts to mess up where the textures line up. They line up really nicely right now and I don't want to screw around with that too much. It's almost an 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' kind of thing.
The textures on the top of the nose really make it look squished and I think editing that part would make it look a little better.

My goal for the tiger: Finish the entire build (Texture design, sculpties, everything for a single tiger av) by Wednesday evening. (I raid on an MMO on Wednesday nights, so I want to get it done beforehand).
Then I want to get all the color versions of it finished by Saturday, or at least before Monday.

Got the hands almost finished, at least build-wise. The claws will have a transparency toggle*, so you can choose to show them or make them disappear. I don't have the scripting in it yet, though. It'll probably be the same as the critters/dires.
*Standard versions will not have this ability. I'm not sure if I'll leave the claws on for the standards or not yet. If anyone has any suggestions, that'd be great ![]() ![]()

Well for some reason my comp won't let me take screenshots anymore. Prolly needs a reboot or could be the KB.
So I won't be able to post screenies tonight (Too late to save to disk and edit, just takes forever to do that). I got the hands, lower legs, feet and tail done tonight. The neck still needs better textures. I also fixed some of the seam issues on the skin. I'm thinking about adding a sculpted tail in there, just because the flexi-tail really does drive me crazy when it starts breaking apart. I love the way the flexi flicks like a real cat tail, but when it breaks up, that's really ugly. I did reduce the number of flexi-prims in the tail from 3 to 2, so when it does break up, at least it's only one prim that's flying around. Anyway, that's all for tonight. Tomorrow, the neck gets retextured, then I start building the Advanced head. (I always love that part, I dunno why. I must be a masochist.

Okay here's some more pics of the feet and tail. Feet will have the same claw scripting* as the hands.
*Not available in the standard version. ![]() ![]()

Looking good so far!
And yeah I hate when tails break. I wish there were some happy medium in the flexis to keep that from happening. Cat tails are at least not as bad as the wolf tails. God those things fall all to hell when there's lag. lol No matter how well any av builder tries to make them. |

Instead of transparency, why not just retract the claws into the hands? Should be simple enough to do with 1 prim claws.
